Over the past months, the project team has continued progress on the final design of University Avenue. Construction of University Avenue is planned to begin in 2016 with the section between Grove Street and McClain Drive. Over 40 individuals attended stakeholder meetings held July 29-30 for impacted businesses and residents of the 1st segment of proposed construction to get information the first year of planned construction.

On June 5, 2015, the City of Cedar Falls submitted an application for federal funding from the Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery, or TIGER Discretionary Grant Program. The highly competitive TIGER program offers federal funding possibilities for large, transformative multi-modal, multi-jurisdictional projects. The University Avenue Reconstruction project was one of 625 applications received this year for the program requesting $9.8 billion in funding for projects in all 50 states. Projects selected for funding are anticipated to be announced before the end of 2015.
