On January 31, the City of Cedar Falls received bids for the second phase of the University Avenue reconstruction project. Peterson Contractors Inc. (PCI) of Reinbeck, Iowa submitted the low bid of $10.3 million, slightly more than $2 million below the engineer’s estimate of $12.3. million. PCI’s bid was slightly below that of K. Cunningham Construction of Cedar Falls, which bid $10.4 million. Cunningham is the general contractor for the project’s first phase in front of College Square and Black Hawk Village. A third bid was received from Pirc-Tobin Construction of Alburnett for $12.1 million, still under the engineer’s estimate. The City Council filed the bids at its meeting February 6 and is anticipated to approve a construction contract for the work Feb. 20.
The Phase 2 project will reconstruct the University Avenue corridor between Waterloo Road and Midway Drive. The City is currently finalizing plans for a Public Information Meeting to be held in early March. The meeting will discuss the Phase 2 project schedule, construction staging and access. Be on the lookout for meetings details coming soon. Comments are closed.
